The SSID of the DR900 Series dashcam is not being broadcasted on some Android devices. The reason for this issue is that although the camera has 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wifi bandwidth, in the current firmware settings the dashcam only broadcasts 5G, so if your phone doesn't support the 5Ghz network, the SSID won't appear in the settings. This modification (dual-band WiFi) has been on the scene since version 1.003.
You can change the WiFi band frequency of your camera to connect it via Direct WiFi to your phone.
Using the mobile phone via BlackVue Cloud App:
- Search for the camera's WiFi/SSID in the WiFi list of your phone's settings.
- Click Connect to camera.
- Click the gear icon
- Choose Firmware settings
- Go to Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi band > Choose 2.4Ghz
After making any changes, go back to the Firmware settings menu, tap and tap Save and close.
Using the Blackvue PC Viewer or Mac Viewer:
1. Turn off the dashcam and remove the microSD card.
2. Insert the card into the microSD card reader and connect it to a computer.
3. Run the BlackVue Viewer program.
4. In BlackVue Viewer go to Settings (Windows) / Windows Viewer-> Preferences (Mac) to access the settings panel.
5. Click the Wi-Fi tab and choose 2.4Ghz under Wi-Fi band.
6. Click Save & Close.

Any news about the firmware release for fixing this problem?
Hi there this is a common issue. Its not 5ghz support that is the issue as I have this issue and a google pixel xl2. The reason is that in the UK and other juritictions the phones have a different band setting on 5ghz.
this explains why you probably tested this ok with your local galaxies etc.
For example a more elegant solution would be a channel selector to a lower 5ghz channel EU/UK.
Dear Customers
The new DR900S firmware with the option of 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz is released. Now you can connect to the direct Wi-fi even if your phone doesn't support 5Ghz bandwidth or if the 5Ghz channel selection is not available in your country.
Thank you
Okay so how does one update the firmware if they cannot connect to it?
Okay so how does one update the firmware if they cannot connect to it?
Additionally i cannot even see it with my wifi anaylizer
Hello Clayton.
Please update the firmware using the protocol mentioned in the article below.
https://helpcenter.blackvue.com/hc/en-us/articles/231447647-Upgrading-the-dashcam-s-firmware-using-computer
Please make sure that the dashcam's wifi is on by checking the WIfi Led
Let us know if you have any further questions.
Thank you
BlackVue - I have found that the 900S SSID at 5Ghz is broadcasting on channel 157. Unfortunately, this is not a channel that all Android devices use (even ones that are less than a year old). All you need to do to fix this is broadcast on a more common channel (or a channel below 112). It took me all of 10 minutes to find this out. To simply say "your phone doesn't support 5Ghz" is appalling. Most the people with this problem will have phones that support 5Ghz, just change the SSID to broadcast on a more common channel please by default or allow us to choose the channel. ...I feel like I'm doing your job for you here!
Hello Steve
We are aware of the fact that the DR900S SSID is broadcasting on channel 157. This channel is usually an issue in some Android devices in Europe. We cannot lower the channel due to some legal limitation about the SSID broadcasting of this particular device.
Some of the older phones do have an issue of not supporting 5Ghz network and it could be the reason for SSID not being shown.
Thank you
I am experiencing this problem on the 750S. Could it be the same problem? I have a brand new Huawei P20 Pro phone. If that is not compatible, you are not doing your job.
Hello Tom
This shouldn't be an issue with DR750S because it doesn't have 5G Wifi network. Have you tried connecting the camera to another phone and see if the issue persists? Also please upgrade the firmware to the latest, in case you haven't to see if it fixes the issue.
Thank you
I have a Note 8 phone and have the same issue with the 5Ghz, this needs to be fixed when top of the range phones cannot see your 5Ghz signal.
Change the 157 channel on the 5Ghz
Samsung S8 here, mine also does not see the 5 Ghz broadcast. Not happy it has to use 2.4 Ghz to connect. Much slower to access files or save to internal. Please fix this!
Got the new DR900S-2CH and after few hours get it work:
1. Download the latest firmware as already explained above.
2. After unzipping change the parameter "WiFiBand" in "BlackVue\Config\config.ini" to "1", i.e. "WiFiBand=1"
3. This change together with the Android App "Firmware download" make the SSID and camera videos visible on my Nokia 8 using 2.4GHz.
Hi, I cannot make this work. I have a new DR900S-2CH and I cannot find the SSID with my Android phone (Huawei P9 Android 7.0)
I downloaded the latest firmware, I upgraded it, didn't work.
I followed Marko's instructions, changed the config.ini, upgraded the firmware again and it still didn't work.
I tried two different phones. I restarted multiple times.
Please help.
Got this working by copying the downloaded firmware to the SD Card from my PC, the opening the Blackvue application on my PC, going to settings -> firmware -> wifi and changing the band from 5GHz to 2.4GHz, putting the firmware back in the dashcam and letting it upgrade.
Furthermore, look for it on your phone as a hotspot and not WiFI direct.
Don't understand why these steps are not documented...
I have a DR900s 1ch I've upgraded to the new firmware and changed to 2ghz signal. Even with these changes I cannot connect to my galaxy note 9. I can connect to my iPad so the wifi is working. Please advise on what can be done to fix this issue.
Cory, with your IPad, you can configure the WiFi using the app. Check the settings there to make sure it's on 2.4Ghz.
Hi Albert thanks for the response but the issue is with my galaxy note 9. It won't connect in either 2.4gh or 5ghz. My iPad works fine.
"With the latest 1.004 firmware upgrade which can choose between 2.4Ghz and 5G bandwidth. Please choose 2.4Ghz settings which will fix the issue".
How? At which point and how does one choose?
This really needs fixing for the UK / EU. Here in the UK we only have 5GHz 36-64 and 100-140.
The argument re legal restrictions is apropos here; the firmware that Blackvue is distributing actually makes the product illegal for use in the UK.
You need to sort out regional firmwares in order to comply with the regulations in the countries you export to.
Pretty annoyed I spent £500 on the best dashcam and simply cannot use wifi. 2.4GHz in our country is useless in more densely populated areas.
I've been in contact with Blackvue regarding this during August and gave up with Blackvue. As stated above, the problem is well known, but initially Blackvue try to convince you that your phone can't see 5GHz.
I stop to resolve this after Mel from Blackvue said "Unfortunately, there is no plan to change the channel since it is working well in other countries. The option for now is to use 2.4Ghz". He also said "The channel cannot be easily selected since there are some regulations from government of that particular country to keep a certain channel. Also each device is licensed to a certain channel and using another channel on that device could be illegal".
I requested they changed their product information to make UK Customers aware, they didn't seem interested. So there you have it.
I have just purchased the DR900S-2CH and have the Samsung Galaxy s9+ and am already regretting my purchase of your dashcam. I have tried for 2 full days to try and set it up. First the Cloud app on the computer keeps shutting down and I can;t even get into the cloud - although I it opens ok on the SD card page, which I'm not wanting. Second the wi-fi won't connect at all -keeps telling me I have an issue with my internet or that my mobile isn't 5G. Really wish I had read all about these major issues prior to purchasing because I wouldn't have wasted $1500 buying 2 of them (one for us and one for the daughter) - not a happy customer at all :(
PS. And I'm in Australia NOT Europe
I have a NEW phone! It only came out in April 2019, it's a Google Pixel! So as one of the latest phones on the market it ought to work right? Blackvue were blaming the smartphones for not supporting 5G if you couldn't see the wifi, even though they new it's because of the range of channels your phone sees, (not the 5G bit), and they don't make this clear and easy to find before you buy one. So, back to my new phone, YES it does see the wifi, but it won't connect, seems I have a new problem. ...BUT, I do have a solution, buy a Nextbase! It's a lot cheaper, works even better, by that I mean it works as intended. I have bought three more cams for the wife and kids, ALL Nextbase. I've not tried their customer support yet (as I haven't needed to), so can't make a comparison on this part, but I do hope they wouldn't try fobbing people off by distorting the information they give out.
my blackvue dashcam DR750S 2CH same issue can't connect w/t wifi 5Ghz just connect w/t 2.4Ghz
I seriously regret purchasing the DS900s, DR590s and the ultra battery pack. I spent close to $1,000. I aslo purchsed the mirror mount for $90, the secure end cap for the DS900. It all sounded great on paper. I would have a front facing cam, inward cam for the interior and a rear facing cam. I had 3 different Power magic Pro modules fail. The installer replaced one of them and could only get it to work on infinity and wired directly to my battery.
After spending the last 4 months struggling to get the dash cam to work in parking mode and paying $20 a month for cloud viewing service ( which I have never been able to use) I tried the whole reformatting of SD card and switching it to 2.4ghz. Now my Galaxy note 10 plus will not recognize the dashcam at all.
Im wondering if anyone else in the United states that has been experiencing these same issues would be into a Class action lawsuit against Blackvue for selling dashcams that don't actually work as advertised .
I have emailed blackvue countless times and it is like being caught in a whirlpool.
Anyone else have any ideas? I am not sure what else to do
Everyone that's still having issues after having switched it to 2.4GHz, try turning off mobile data on your phone before connecting by WiFI to the dashcam. Also, make sure that your phone stays connected to the BlackVue WiFI even if there's no Internet available, that's a property of the WiFI connection on the phone.
Hi there I got just my dashcam 900x 2ch, And I can`t connect the camera to my phone by direct wifi and manual way ? How to fix this I tried every things????
