Upgrading the firmware using an iOS or Android device

A. Cloud FOTA (Firmware Over the Air) Remote Upgrade
This firmware upgrade procedure can only be performed remotely if the phone is connected to the internet and the camera is Cloud-connected.
(NOTE: Only Cloud-compatible BlackVue models follow this method of firmware upgrade)
Note
• When a new firmware is available, an icon will show near your dashcam’s name.
• The Firmware can only be upgraded when the dashcam is connected to Cloud.
1. Open the BlackVue app. Select Connect to cloud. Tap.
2. Tap Remote firmware update > Update firmware.
The dashcam will start downloading the firmware and automatically apply it.
Caution
Please make sure the dashcam is powered on until normal recording starts after the upgrade is completed. Any power interruption may prevent the firmware upgrade from completing, resulting in a malfunction of the dashcam.
3. You will be notified once the upgrade is successful. You can go to your Notifications ( > Notifications) to confirm if the firmware was updated successfully.
B. Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) Close-range Upgrade
This firmware upgrade procedure can only be performed within a close range if the phone is connected to the internet, even if the camera is not Cloud-connected.
(NOTE: Only WiFi and Cloud-compatible BlackVue models follow this method of firmware upgrade)
1. Open the BlackVue app and select Connect to camera. Tapof the camera that requires a firmware update.
2. Select Remote firmware update and allow the camera to download the latest firmware version. Click Continue.
3. Click Join to connect your phone to the camera and send the downloaded firmware to the camera. Since the camera does not provide internet data, a pop-up message will appear to ask if you would like to continue connecting to the dashcam or use cellular data. Select Keep Trying Wi-Fi to continue.
4. After the firmware is sent, click OK. You may notice that the red dot signifying a new firmware update may still be present. Click the camera once again to connect to it.
5. Click Join to connect your phone to the camera once again. Taplocated at the upper right corner of the screen and check if the word "New" disappears from the sub-menu Remote firmware update. Click that sub-menu to verify if the firmware of the camera is the latest version.

C. Upgrading the firmware via Cloud Viewer (Remote Upgrade)
Login into your account at www.blackvuecloud.com/login to check for firmware updates for your camera(s). Make sure that your camera is connected to the Cloud.
1. On the landing page after you log in, you will see a red dot on the side of the camera that requires a firmware update. Click to reveal the sub-menu and click Remote firmware update (New).
2. Click the button Update firmware to continue.
3. A small window on the lower corner of the page will appear, showing that the firmware is being downloaded.
4. After the firmware download is completed, it will be sent to the camera. The firmware update will begin. When the firmware update is complete, the camera will restart/reboot.
5. The small window will show that the firmware update is completed and you can press Cameras to return to the list of cameras.
6. Click the camera once again and check if the firmware is the latest version.
D. Upgrading the firmware using a computer (Windows/macOS)
Keep your BlackVue dashcam updated by upgrading the firmware to the latest version. Visit the BlackVue website (www.blackvue.com) to check for any new firmware releases for your BlackVue dashcam model.
(NOTE: All BlackVue models follow this method of firmware upgrade)
1. Insert the microSD card into the microSD card reader.
2. Connect the microSD card reader to a computer.
3. Launch BlackVue Viewer.
4. Select SD Card Viewer and click on the About button.
• For Mac users, click and select About BlackVue from the menu.
5. Check the current firmware version of your BlackVue dashcam and proceed only if your version is not the latest one.
6. Format the microSD card.
7. Go to the BlackVue website (www.blackvue.com > Support > Download) and download the latest firmware for your BlackVue dashcam model in zip format.
8. Unzip the downloaded file and copy the BlackVue folder to the microSD card.
9. Insert the microSD card into the dashcam and connect the power to initiate the firmware upgrade. Make sure the power remains on until the upgrade is completed. Any power interruption may prevent the firmware upgrade from completing, resulting in malfunction.
Note
• Do not insert or remove the microSD card when the dashcam is turned on. Doing so may damage the data and cause a malfunction of the microSD card.
• Your saved settings are not affected by the firmware upgrade.
• The firmware is upgraded to the previously saved language.
