"Event files" should be marked as "Read only" and not overwritten

I've just found out the my Blackvue dashcam overwrites the oldest file eventhough it is an "Event file". Consequently you have to immidiately stop the car and backup an Event file that you want to save, if you wan't the ensure that it is not deleted. (I'm aware that it may take several hours before the Event file in question will be deleted, but there's always a risk that you forget - or are unable - to back the file up once you reach your destination.

My previous dashcam, which unfortunately stopped working, marked "Event files" as "Read only" so they would not be overwritten later. The dashcam also had a button to manually mark the current and previous file as "Read only".

While I fully understand that you won't be able to add a button as described above, just marking "Event files" as read only would solve the problem, as a light "tap" of my DR650S will mark the current file as "Event".
Considering the fact that you already recommend a manual formatting of the memorycard regulary, there's no risk that the card will be stuffed with read only files.

Thanks, Jorgen

This is a very sensible suggestion, especially those users with a small capacity SD card.  The problem is less of a risk if you have a 128 GB capacity card, but the design principle is still a sound one.

Agree with Jorgen, a simple function to mark a video so it won't be overwritten would be must appreciated.

I think this has been implemented now by the Settings -> Recording "Lock event files" option.

I've just updated my DR 650S-1CH. Unfortunately the feature does not seem to have been implemented in this model.

BlackVue actually responded positively to my initial post in March, but nine months later this basic feature, which is standard for most other dashboard cams, is still not available. (Would be happily surprised if I missed it in the settings :-) )

I've just bought a DR590W-1CH and found that it has the same issue reported by Jorgen. Two years on from the original post and the feature is still not available. The lack of a lock feature might be understandable on a camera costing half the price, but it is surely unacceptable on a premium product like the DR590. Come on BlackVue, get your act together and get this fixed, please! It is presumably just a simple software upgrade?
