Parking Mode Event?

This morning I got into my car and the camera told me movement had been detected during the night. I went into the app to find a whole 5 hours of recorded data! is there an even only option for parking mode? Currently, I have motion tracking on but it is parked on a busy street so I really only want it to record collisions while parked. Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Andrew

Parking Mode motion detection doesn't work. it records every movement, so the only fix is to set the sensitivity to zero, so it records no movement at all.

Bummer! would the 'collision detection' still work if motion detection was switched off?

I think it should but haven't verified it.

I'll set it tonight and let you know. Streetside parking is the only reason I got this so it better work!

I think it will. The camera is pretty useless in poor light anyway so park near a streetlight if you can.

I just had a reply from Blackvue CS:

"We will work on a solution to decrease the sensitivity in DR650 series but it might take some time. For now we recommend you to park the car where there is no movement in order to avoid the unnecessary parking recording. Unfortunately, we don't have a policy of upgrading the dashcam to the newer version otherwise we would definitely have provided you the service"

"Some time" has already been seven months for me so ~I have no confidence this functionality will ever be fixed, and the upgrade to the DR750S wouldn't work even if they had the decency to offer it. How do I park in a public place where there is no movement?

I am seriously considering taking the DR650S-2CH and PMP back to Halfords to request a refund.

It has now been confirmed by a Blackvue Customer that Parking Mode Motion Detection Sensitivity cannot be adjusted on the DR750S models either.   The only option appears to be turning off the Motion Detection (Set to ZERO in the firmware), and raising the g-sensor sensitivity during parking.   As others have said, this situation is deplorable.  The feature should never have been offered for sale if it could not work in practice.

Any update on this part, the system still runs all the time and drain my battery and it's annoying because I can't use my auxiliary heating when the battery is low.

    I'm running firmware version 1.008.

Have BlackVue giving a public comment on this problem?

Right now I see this as a false advertising around a  key feature that does not work at all.

You have two choices. Return the unit and get a refund, or set it to zero to disable parking mode.

      Dear Blackvue,

Can someone from Blackvue please contact all the angry and dissatisfied customers via the Forum (DR650 Dashcam Section) concerning how you intend to reduce parking mode motion detection sensitivity in the firmware.

      A) Can this significant defect in your product be fixed?
      B) What is your solution?
      C) When will it be fixed?

      Thank you.

      Dear Customer
       Thank you for your concerns.
The sensitivity of motion detection during parking mode has significantly been reduced in the newest DR750S.
It's not a defect but a feature which needs enhancement and due to some technical limitations it;s hard to implement in the DR650S however our engineers are still working on it.
I am afraid i cannot tell you a certain time when the changes will be implemented but i will forward your concerns again to our planning team.

      Dear Norman,
I suspected that this was the situation.
In my opinion, it would be better Customer Relations for Blackvue if you explained this to the other customers with the same complaint.
I specifically purchased your product (rather than rivals) because you claimed that the DR650S could successfully perform parking mode motion detection. I think that you should consider a remedy for customers like me. Here is my suggestion to Blackvue ...
If the DR750 is so much better in this regard, why not offer the owners of DR650S models an upgrade path?
Could we exchange just the cameras for a small additional cost? Why not make this a virtue of Blackvue by demonstrating that you do not leave customers stranded with "partially unfit for purpose" products. (I am assuming that the existing camera mounts and cables for a DR650 system will work fine with a DR750S setup).
Please consider an upgrade policy, I'm sure it would enhance your international reputation for customer support.
      Kind regards,
      Nigel

      Hello Nigel
If this was a fault in the product we would definitely consider upgrading it for our customers but please understand that this is a feature which was projected as it is however we are continuously working to enhance it for our customers.

      Thank you

Thanks Nigel, unfortunately a useless respond from them.
What have you done, returned the product to the dealer?

I have started a support case with them and will run a case with the local dealer her in Denmark and the Danish law enforcement for false marketing.

    Hi Claus,

In my case, I also have the B-112 Battery System and a 128GB SD Card.  This means that although I am finding this a defect in the product that is extremely disappointing it is not causing loss of recording (by overwriting a smaller card overnight) or vehicle battery discharge below the requirements for starting the engine. Unfortunately,  I did the extensive installation.  So I am continuing to press Blackvue for a remedy (by firmware or camera exchange) before considering a return of goods.  Also, I am not street parking overnight; so I can turn-off the Blackvue when the car is in my garage.

Regarding your proposed remedy, the following may be of interest to you ...

    ___

The UK DR650S-2CH Manual on Page 61 clearly states ...

    QUOTE

"In parking mode the dashcam continuously buffers video and saves a parking recording when motion is detected in the dashcam's field of view.
You can adjust the sensitivity of the motion detection so minor motion caused by wind or rain doesn't trigger a recording. Please take into account your vehicle's surroundings when adjusting the sensitivity."

    UNQUOTE

This second sentence is untrue, in my experience (and according to many other Blackvue users, like yourself, on this forum).

Although the UK Manual is "Copyright 2016 Pittasoft Co.Ltd." it does not carry anywhere the usual additional clause "E & O.E." (that is typically found in manuals or advertising for products in the UK).

E & OE stands for "Errors and Omissions Excepted".  So Blackvue UK cannot claim that the above statement on page 61 of the manual  is an error on their part that is covered by E & OE.

You will need to investigate further regarding manuals and advertising as occurred in Denmark at the time of purchase.

I have the DR750 with power magic pro. Seems parking mode it doesn't in any model. Motion detect on records non stop till power magic shuts camera off. On zero and G sensor on not sure whether records at all. How much of an impact should set off an event. Firmw 1.02. Yet while driving random beeps speed alert is off. Not sure what event is triggered in normal driving mode . Maybe a bird in sky ridiculoos not happy at all with parking mode. Its pointless. Definitely eont be recommending this to anyone.

    Dear Customers

Thank you for your concerns, feedback and suggestions.

The "motion detection" function in Parking mode is working as advertised i.e "the camera will detect any motion dashcam's field of view during Parking mode" and will notify you through cloud.

If the camera is triggering recordings without any sort of motion in the picture, then there must be an issue in the camera which needs to be fixed.

Currently, if users doesn't want the camera to record unnecessary motion recordings they can turn the motion detection to zero and in that situation the camera will "still record" any impact on the car.

However, we are in a stage of developing a solution where motion detection functionality can be adjusted to users requirements which will ignore any movements outside certain area irrelevant to the car which will be implemented in the upcoming firmware's.

    Hello BlackVue

Unfortunately, you are incorrect. I have set the motion sensor to zero but this also means any impacts on the car while in parking mode is not recorded. I have the parking impact sensor set to 80 in each field and parking mode is initiated as I have it connected to the battery via a PMP. Sometimes I get the notification 'An impact has been detected while in parking mode' but a clip has not been recorded.

Very disappointing as it means when the car is parked on the street, you either get continuous recordings (which are then impossible to sift through to find the 2-second collision if there is one) or no recordings at all. Ultimately this means parking mode is not fit for purpose for anyone parking on the street.

    @Noman

Come on, "as advertised" that just another lame excused. Please tell me how do Blackvue advertise that function ????

The only advertising that I can find is "Parking mode and Motion detecting" and funny enough Blackvue connects "Motion detecting" with a sign of a person that moves not the leaf on a tree 200 meters away from the car.
And also if the function is working as it should, why have the motionsensor option value in the config file been changing over time.

The solution you talk about, isn't that just an attempt to fix the montionsensor bug and not a "new" feature.

Also just found this "advertised" by Blackvue, so please how should a customer read and understand the following line..

    • Movement is detected by the front or rear camera (sensitivity can be adjusted or turned off). In this case, it creates a one-minute Parking video recording that starts a few seconds before the trigger*.'

    Dear Norman,

"However, we are in a stage of developing a solution where motion detection functionality can be adjusted to users requirements which will ignore any movements outside certain area irrelevant to the car which will be implemented in the upcoming firmware's."

This is much more hopeful (and exactly what I was suggesting).  If your engineers can make a firmware change that restricts motion detection to the lower half of the field of view, then the system will react to motion that is closer to the car. Ideally this should make a motion detection field that is as wide as the camera view, but only covering up to approximately ten meters away.  Maybe then you would be able to superimpose on the camera view an optional outline box on the app to demonstrate where the motion detection field is located.

Although this is not complete motion detection sensitivity adjustment, this would be a considerable improvement over the current firmware's capability.

    Dear Andymac

If the dashcam is not recording any impact on car with the G sensor settings in Parking mode to 80 , then there seems to be an issue with your specific dashcam.

Please email cs@pittasoft.com with "System" and "config" folders attached from the blackvue folder inside the SD card and our support agents will help you troubleshoot the problem.

    Thank you

    Dear Norman,

I have also tried today to get my DR650S-2CH to record an impact event during parking mode.

    TEST

    • G sensors all set at 80 for parking (and 30 for normal driving)
    • Rear camera OFF (recording and power).
    • Car inside garage facing end wall with no motion (in view of front camera).
    • Car in Parking Mode (nine minutes after power up).
    • When Motion Detection Sensitivity is set to 1, and the rear of the car is slightly rocked  - YES a recording occurs.
    • When Motion Detection Sensitivity is set to 0, and the rear of the car is slightly rocked  - NO recording happens.

No recording in Parking Mode with these settings.

    ___

I agree with Andymac, that either ...

    • Turning off the Motion Detection also turns off the G sensors during Parking Mode.

    or

    • G sensors do not work in Parking Mode, and it is the slight motion of rocking the car that is triggering Motion Detection.

    UPDATE

I have now tried the same configuration shown above (except G sensors are now at 100).  I still cannot trigger a recording by rocking the car body.

HOWEVER, I CAN induce a recording if I give the camera itself a sharp flick.

This indicates that the Blackvue Product is TOO SENSITIVE for Motion Detection and NOT SENSITIVE ENOUGH for Impact Detection in Parking Mode.

The G sensors work correctly in Normal Driving Mode.

    Dear NP

Please note that there are two types of recordings in Parking mode.

    1. Parking mode File (PF) which is triggered when the camera detects a motion.

    2. Event file (EF),when the camera detects an impact.

Therefore, the recording which is being triggered while you turn on the Motion detection is Parking recording, which is due to motion and not impact.

    Thank you

    Hi Norman,

Yes, that appears to be the case.

However, the whole point that Blackvue Customers are making is that your product is advertised (and shown in manuals) as being capable of recording occasional incidents while the vehicle is unattended. The current firmware for the DR650 only permits constant recording or no recording during parking.

    • PF Files are recording constantly if the Motion Detection Sensitivity is set to anything other than OFF.
    • No EV files are recorded (even if G-sensors are set to a maximum 100) unless there is a sharp or sudden impact to the parked vehicle.

This does not provide the expected recording of incidents that are usually encountered in a Public Car Park.  I expected your product to be able to record just a few files during a long stay in a car park.  Such as,

    1. A Car Park Attendant looking at my parking ticket in the window.
    2. Another driver scratching my car during a parking manoeuvre (with only a slight or slow impact).

The DR650 clearly cannot do this at present because MOTION DETECTION is TOO SENSITIVE and IMPACT DETECTION is TOO INSENSITIVE.

    Hello NP

Thank you for your valuable comments and suggestions. We highly regard our customers concerns and our engineers are already working to change the parking mode scenario to avoid useless recordings as you mentioned. This feature will be implemented in the upcoming firmware updates.

    Best Regards

Thankyou NP for your clear explanation of the issues, your testing, your analysis of the likely path for a solution.  This has clearly taken you significant time to work through and document and I appreciate it.

Thankyou Noman for responding and giving us a slither of hope.  It would be valuable if your engineering team could identify time window during which they think a minimum viable product update could be produced (or even a beta for us to test).  It would also be heartening to understand the priority of this firmware upgrade against other features or products the team may be working on.

    Thanks to you both,

Michael... owner of a brand new DR750S-2CH with Power Magic Pro and BlackVue 128GB SD card who is hoping that the close to AUD$900 I have spent on this solution is going to meet my initial expectations.
