Camera apparently not recording, firmware not updating, and how do I save an incident?!

I should start by saying when I discovered BlackVue, I was pretty excited because it seemed like the camera that had it all, especially in combination with PowerMagic Pro. (I have a DR900S-1CH.)

Two months in, my PowerMagic Pro died and I've been quietly becoming disgruntled with the camera itself in recent months based on its horrible performance. And support hasn't been super helpful, so I'm hoping my luck changes here...

Manual recording a joke

It wasn't until after several incidents when I discovered triggering Manual mode starts a recording. I want it to save the current recording, which I've set to 3 minutes. How is this not a thing? How it the current functionality of Manual recording ever useful? Is there a solution for the simple (obvious) use case of wanting to mark a clip that is currently being recorded as saved?

Camera not actually recording

Despite all the settings for recording all the time being on, I have a consistent stream of clips from March-April when I initially set up the camera, but nothing since then. I have one random clip from this morning, but nothing else. Could it be the older clips are marked as saved and my card is full, thus not recording any further? There just seems to be no indication of what's actually going on, so it's super frustrating.

Firmware not updating

I downloaded the 1.012 firmware and proceeded to upgrade. It finishes the process, the camera reboots, but checking the firmware shows the original firmware of 1.001. Any known workarounds?

Deleting files?

Is it not possible to delete individual clips? In the hamburger menu in the camera view, I see a "Delete file" option (which doesn't seem to be in the right spot to pertain to a single file), but even choosing that doesn't really seem to do anything.

Reset/Reformat card?

I figured it would be worth just wiping the whole camera and starting over, but I don't see an option for "Factory reset", nor do I see a way to format the card. Tips, aside from pulling it out, finding an adapter and hooking it up to a computer?

    Manual recording a joke

It actually starts 5 seconds before you hit the proximity sensor. But that doesn't help anyway...

    Camera not actually recording

Yeah, probably your card is full of events or is defective. Just try to wipe the card - hold the side button for about 5 seconds (wait for voice reminder) and then again for about 5 seconds.

    Firmware not updating

Don't know. Did you extract the whole folder "Blackvue" into the card or only the files inside?

    Deleting files?

Nope, Blackvue users are waiting for this "functionality" since 2017.

    Reset/Reformat card?

    Mentioned above.

For me, the best option now is to stay away from Blackvue as much as you can. I was so excited about their DR900S-2CH as well and i hate it from the begining. At this moment i'm just waiting for Viofo's A129 Pro. (too bad it doesn't have a Cloud)

I'll give another perspective - I've had a great result from all our BlackVues. Filmed several incidents for other's benefit thankfully, including a texting driver who ran over a cyclist.

MicroSD cards are flakey in general - I find its always best to use the BlackVue PC app to format the card and copy the firmware to it. I'm never impressed by upgrading firmware OTA as I have fritzed a number of IP cameras this way.

The manual recording function is pretty useless given it only adds 5 secs prior to your activating it. Plus the parking mode only records from when the impact occurs - not the 30s or so prior that would have seemed really sensible. Apparently you need the fleet plan for that.

Probably lash out, buy a new microSD card (I used SanDisk but people laugh at me) format it in your PC and put the firmware on it. Boot the camera up and I'd expect it will all be right.
